Seth on form at Whilton Mill, but to no avail
Seth had a disappointing result in the A-Final at Whilton Mill last weekend, despite the fact that he had been the man to beat all day.

It was, amazingly, the first wet race of the sprint championship at Whilton Mill for the penultimate race of the season. The endurance drivers got a whole day of practice the day before, but Seth was faced with a completely new experience.

Despite this, he excelled from early on taking a 3rd place in his first heat from ninth on the grid. He was clearly on form and was on the pace of race winner Eddie Hall. For his next heat Seth lined up 18th on the grid but was keen to improve in the slippery conditions. He made a fantastic start and had managed to take 2nd place by the end of the lap. ‘It was a dream start. I new that understeer was a problem in turn 1, so I braked and turned in early. Everyone else slid wide and I could just drive round the outside of them. I then set about trying to catch Guy Holiday who was in the lead. It took a while, but I finally got past him on the last lap. He clearly wanted the win so tried to overtake me up the inside on the final corner. He inevitably slid wide, hit the rear of my kart and sent me into the tyres. Guy was very apologetic but I was absolutely gutted to have lost the race on the final corner through no fault of my own. By the time I got going I had dropped down to 17th place.’ Seth could easily have let this setback affect him, but instead he was encouraged by the fact that he had set the quickest lap and focused on his final heat. For this heat, he was second on the grid and took the lead on the first corner. He then took the win from Lee Kemp and Parmveer Nijjar who had dropped almost 8 seconds behind him by the end.

Seth would have qualified on the front row for the A-Final had it not been for his incident in Heat 2, but he was still a respectable 11th on the grid. He had some drama in practice where his steering column snapped causing him to make a last minute kart change. Seth had another great first corner where he managed to make his way up to fifth place, but it became evident on the first lap that he was struggling with his new kart. On lap 3 Glenn Beard tried to overtake at the top of the hill but slid wide, so Seth turned in late to overtake on the exit. Unfortunately James Akehurst lost control under braking and knocked him off the track. ‘It was so frustrating to be knocked off again, but I can still take a good deal away from the day, and look forward to Rye House this weekend.’
