IMSD Racing scored their best result since the win at Spa in 2006 with a fine second place in the 2008 New Year's Cup at Bayford Meadows on 5 January. Drivers Eddie Hall and Stephen Deuchar were beaten only by KOKS2 in a strong field that included several Club100 regulars including former Lightweight Sprint champion Lee Pilcher and several Bayford pro-kart regulars. Eddie qualified the team in an excellent second place, but Stephen took the start and lost ground as the kart bogged down off the line and slipped to 5th on the opening lap. He soon recovered to third, however, keeping the second place Pilcher team comfortably in sight and holding off the pursuing pack. Just after the half hour he handed over to Eddie, hoping to do a short second stint later in the 100 minute race, but Eddie's excellent progress on track meant that any further driver changes proved unnecessary. Eddie held third without difficulty, taking in two mandatory 'drive-through' pit stops and moved up to a very comfortable second place in the closing stages. "An excellent result", said Stephen after the race, "and worthy final chapter to IMSD's distinguished history".
In 2008 Eddie and Ian Wilson are joining forces with old rivals II2BI to form a new team, 3Cubed, and Stephen will do a small number of Sprints alongside son Seth. Stephen, Seth and Eddie will be reunited at Le Mans for the 24 hour race in early July: the full team line-up will be announced in February. |
