Another A-final but a disappointing day at Buckmore
With the C100 championship heading into its final stages, a good performance at the Buckmore Park sprints on 26 August was going to be vital. In the end, the weather was great but the same couldn’t be said for Seth’s results…

This was only his second drive in the dry at Buckmore in a C100 kart, so Seth knew that it was going to be tough to race against the more experienced competition. “Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to drive yesterday [Saturday] in the endurance race and I know a lot of the competition did.” He struggled in the first heat with a poor kart, and despite holding the lead for most of the race he was passed on the last lap by Trevor Fowell and had to settle for P2. “The kart in the first heat was really terrible, especially going down the hill, and on the last lap I made a large mistake allowing Trevor to take the lead on the penultimate corner”.

His second heat was even more disappointing though. He started 8th and therefore had to go round the outside at the first corner. He lost a few places and was following an inexperienced C100 driver who spun going down the hill, wiping out Seth and another driver. Seth recovered and got back up to P10 but his lap times were still disappointing. His final heat was equally disastrous as he hit a spinning driver in the first hairpin and then spun himself. He could have salvaged the race but his kart didn’t fire up easily and he lost nearly 20 seconds.

Despite these reasonably poor results, Seth qualified 18th in the A final. He got through first corners well and hade made up a few places, but an overenthusiastic overtaking attempt by Andrew Osbourne entering the second hairpin caused Seth to lose all momentum. “As I bogged down, drivers started to fly past left right and centre. Someone tried to go up the inside of me going in to the next corner but I held my line and we touched, forcing me into yet another spin. I set some reasonably encouraging laps but I know that I still need to find more speed.” Seth now has three more rounds left, and when dropped scores are taken into contention he should climb some way back up the championship table. The season’s target is to finish in the top 10 overall.
