Seth back on form at Rye House
Seth returned to the C100 sprint championship on 22nd July at Rye House after missing the previous round at Llandow. The rain held off for the whole day and an eventful A Final gave him his best C100 result to date.

Having competed with endurance team IMSD Racing the day before, he felt reasonably confident even before practice: “I had a good opportunity to learn the track yesterday as it was completely dry, and although our end result was terrible I think I learned a lot over the course of the day” However Seth’s confidence was quickly shattered as he got caught up in an accident on the first corner of his first heat – "I got a great start so was running really close to the guy in front through Stadium, but he pushed too hard and as he went into a spin he collected me and I lost all of my speed.” Seth managed to keep the engine running but lost roughly 9 seconds and fell into last position. "A few people spun off giving some extra positions and I started to reel in the pack in front of me but six laps wasn’t long enough and I only managed to salvage 11th."

His second heat was overshadowed by a horrific accident at the first corner involving several karts. “I was starting near the front and as we went into Stadium I felt a hard jolt from behind. Then someone beside me half spun and the next thing I knew a kart flew over the top of me and landed on the tyre wall”. It was Anthony Summers. The race was suspended as Anthony was treated on the track and then in the ambulance, but was restarted after a few minutes. ‘I slipped to 3rd place but regained a place immediately and then set off in pursuit of the leader. I was driving well and set the fastest lap of the race whilst I tried to catch him, and as I got a good run onto the straight I made a move up the inside into Stadium and it was pretty simple from then on!” Seth also went well in the next heat taking 7th place from 11th on the grid.

These reasonably good results put Seth on grid 12 for the A Final, a personal best. “The final was absolutely hectic! I made a good start and although the leader Jon Pethick disappeared, there was a huge group of drivers taking up 2nd to 15th places. I managed to gain a good few places and got up to 6th at one point but I clashed with Trevor Fowell as he tried get back onto the racing line after an off, and then got into a battle with Karl Suter which lost me more time. I then survived the last few laps and picked up my best C100 sprint result so far taking 9th position.” Seth will be hoping for a similar step forward in form at the next round at Buckmore Park in a month’s time.

speedyseth.co.uk sends best wishes to Anthony Summers for a quick and full recovery. The incident was a very unfortunate and scary one, though the driving standards throughout the Lightweight sprints were generally quite good on this occasion. However, there were apparently some problems in the Heavy and Premier classes earlier in the day.
