In only his third Club100 Sprint race Seth finished a fine 10th in a thrilling Lightweight A-final at Shenington on 1st April. He was on the pace all day, only narrowly missing out on winning two of his three heats, and clearly benefited from having learned the circuit the previous day whilst helping IMSD Racing achieve a strong 8th place in the Premier Endurance race.
In heat 1 he started 8th and finished 2nd, closing fast on the leader over the last lap. In heat 2 he started 14th and finished 10th with a poorly handling and down on power kart. In heat 3 he started on pole and led throughout, until on the very last corner of the last lap he was forced into a spin by a high speed lunge from the second placed driver. If he’d held on to the win he would have started the A-final on row 2….
Instead he started 5th in the B-final, though quickly made his way up to second place behind Joshua Hill. Hill (whose world champion father Damon was also racing today, but in the Heavyweight class) took first place by less than two seconds in the end, but was then disqualified for being underweight, leaving Seth with the win – and qualifying 23rd for the A-final.
Seth made a good getaway in the A-final and was up to 16th by lap 4. By lap 8 he was 12th and 9th by lap 10, one of a high-speed train of karts swapping places constantly. “That was the most exciting race I’ve ever done”, he said afterwards. “Everyone was so hyped up and it was mad at times. I managed to make up 13 places over the 12 laps and I think it was one of my best drives. But I couldn’t help wondering what would have happened if I’d qualified up the front where I belonged today. I think my target of a podium this season is definitely realistic now..”
