Ice Storm Spoils Sprint Final
The A-final of the second round of the Club100 Lightweight Sprint championship was hit by a dramatic storm of rain, sleet and ice at the end of a long afternoon of mostly dry racing at Whilton Mill on Sunday 18th March. For the second round in succession Seth put in good performances in the heats and qualified well for the A-final, but was finally to finish at the tail of the field after sustaining accident damage during a fraught race.

Seth scored a seventh and two third places in his three heats (one of which became a fifth when he was deducted two places for a jumped start). "I was a bit off the pace in the first race but picked up in the second - where I finished very close behind the leader and actually should have won it. I then led my third heat for most of the way before slipping back to third on the last lap - the throttle was very stiff, either on or off, and caught me out at the end. And to make matters worse I was docked two places for jumping the start: the guy on pole had already false-started us once and then trapped me by lifting off just before the line…. Without that I would have qualified 10th for the A-final, but as it was I had to make do with 15th".

After a careful start in the treacherous conditions for the A-final, Seth was up to 10th place within a couple of laps but collided heavily with Simon Young (from IMSD's endurance rivals RBB) at the top of the circuit and after that the kart wouldn't turn left at all - resulting in two further spins and a long delay waiting for a pusher kart. "At the end my hands were practically frozen too", said Seth, "so it wasn't the most enjoyable race I've ever been in. But after the disappointment of the first two rounds things can only get better at the next race at Shenington. At least I hope so!".
