Double Trouble at Mill
Double Esses scored a comfortable second place at the second round of the Rookie championship at Whilton Mill, despite two spins, a black flag and a mechanical problem which cost them some three laps in total. Despite these troubles they led for much of the race and finished only a lap behind the eventual winners KAD Racing. The team will not be competing in any further Rookie races as the team has decided that star driver Seth Scott Deuchar has gained enough experience now for the Sprint racing season ahead.

Veteran driver Stephen Deuchar celebrated his 50th birthday by qualifying in a poor 9th place for the race, but went on to set the team’s fastest race lap in his opening stint as he climbed up to take the lead by the 15 minute mark. A black flag penalty and the first fuel stop later put the team back into 2nd but they were back up front with 40 minutes completed during Ian Miller’s run. Seth then double-stinted, consolidating the lead until a backmarker forced him into a spin on the hour. Miller’s second stint was spoiled by a further violent incident with wayward backmarker, followed by a stop to repair a broken engine mount. Second place was safe, but ultimately disappointing.

“We opted to run only 3 qualifying laps so we’d have plenty of fuel for a long first stint and that meant we avoided the congestion in the pits all through the race – but it also meant that it took a few minutes after the race began before we were running comfortably at the front” said Deuchar. “I was assaulted from behind by someone who didn’t like being overtaken” said Miller, “which finally spoiled our chances of the win”. “Without all the mishaps we would have finished about 3 laps in front”, said Seth. “so I think it’s time for me to move out of the Rookies now. Apart from the Sprints, I’m hoping to get a chance to drive with top Premier team IMSD Racing in one or two races this year.

Seth will be racing in round 2 of the Lightweight Sprint championship at Whilton Mill on Sunday March 18th.
