Double Esses, the team established by Seth Scott Deuchar with his father Stephen, scored a comfortable victory in the opening round of the 2007 Club100 Rookie Championship at Buckmore Park on 10 February. Held in conditions that ranged from damp to very wet, the team qualified on P2 and led for most of the 2-hour race, finally finishing a lap ahead of the nearest competitors despite a couple of spins.
The race was principally a training exercise for Seth as part of his preparation for a full season of Lightweight Sprint racing with Club100 in 2007. Supported by IMSD team-mates Ian Wilson and Stephen Deuchar, Seth did much of the running throughout the day, taking over from Ian and Stephen at 40 minutes once the team was established in the lead. He drove confidently throughout, and adapted well to the increasingly wet and cold track. A late spin cut the team’s lead from over 2 laps to just 1, but the victory was never in doubt.
“It was good practice for the opening round of the sprints in 2 weeks time”, said Seth after the podium celebrations, “but I’m hoping for some dry running soon! The (2-stroke) Club100 Lightweight championship is going to be a much bigger challenge than the Formula 6 (4-stroke) racing I’ve been doing over the last two years, but I’m really up for it and the win today has boosted my confidence…I must say thanks to Stephen and Ian for all their support ..”.
Next stop for Seth is the opening round of the LW Sprints at Buckmore Park on 25th Feb. He will be competing in just one more round of the Rookie championship - at Whilton Mill on 11 March, along with IMSD team-mates Ian Miller and Stephen Deuchar, who will celebrate his 50th birthday that day.
